Zyprexa (the brand name for the drug "olanzapine") is an extremely popular antipsychotic drug manufactured by Eli-Lilly that was approved for distribution in 1996. Zyprexa can be taken in an oral pill form or an intramuscular form. The intramuscular form of Zyprexa is taken as an injection used to treat Schizophrenia and Bi - polar disorder and it works more quickly than the pill form.

As early as 2001, there were indications that one of the side effects of Zyprexa use was diabetes and hyperglycemia. Warning labels were updated in 2002, 2003 and 2004 as concern grew about the indicated serious side effects of Zyprexa use. Symptoms of severe side effects of Zyprexa can begin occurring in as little as a week after treatment begins.
